I was listening to iPhone Alley’s live audio feed of WWDC.08, and became ecstatic when Steve announced the 3G iPhone with GPS. Steve explained that there were three main barriers blocking them from achieving their goal of selling 10,000,000 iPhones in the first year – Price, Availability & Speed.
Price:
I had never felt that the iPhone’s price of $399 was too steep, but according to Steve himself that was one of the biggest reasons for consumers not “converting.” I was shocked beyond belief to hear that the new iPhone would be sold for $199 (8GB – Black) and $299 (16GB – Black/White). Now almost everyone will be able to afford the iPhone in July… Here come the Apple Converters!
Availability:
Did you know that the current iPhone is currently only available in 6 countries? I thought that their market was much larger than that, and Steve wants to fix this problem. They have announced that the iPhone will be released in 70+ Countries in the coming months. I thought that this meant that it would be soldunlocked, but to my dismay, this was not announced. Let the hackers commence!
Speed:
It is no surprise to us iPhone users that Edge Browsing is pretty damn slow compared to our internet speed at home, as well as the WiFi Speeds we have come to know and love as we used the old iPhone in the wild. It was announced today that the iPhone would be 3G enabled on July 11th.
Until I can spend some time with the new iPhone it will be impossible for me to do a proper review. I do hope that I have answered any immediate questions you might have about the iPhone 3G. If you have any other questions or comments, please leave them at the bottom of this page. See you in line…
